What to Consider Before Your Mummy Makeover?
Before undergoing a mummy makeover, it’s crucial to prepare to achieve the best possible outcome. Here are some detailed points to keep in mind:
Before your surgery, aim to get as close to your target weight as possible. Achieving this helps ensure that any future weight loss or gain won’t hurt your surgical results. For surgeries like mummy makeovers and tummy tucks, it’s that your Body Mass Index (BMI) should be below 30. To check if you meet this criterion, you can use our BMI calculator to determine if you’re a good fit for the procedure.
Your post-surgery recovery will be more straightforward if you’ve planned time off work and set up a quiet, relaxing space for recuperation. Make sure to clear your work schedule well in advance to eliminate any unnecessary stress during your recovery period. Arrange your home to be as as possible, with a cosy chair for daytime rest and soft bedding to help you sleep well. Adequate rest is key to a successful recovery.
It’s highly recommended to maintain good health habits in the weeks leading up to your surgery. Being in optimal health can significantly reduce the risk of complications. If you have any pre-existing health concerns, it’s essential to consult with your surgeon well in advance.
You should refrain from smoking and consuming alcohol for at least four weeks before your surgery. Alcohol could adversely interact with anaesthesia, and smoking can restrict blood flow due to nicotine, which in turn affects the oxygen supply to your tissues. Reduced oxygen can hamper your body’s healing process and could lead to complications like problematic scarring.
After a major surgery, such as a mummy makeover or tummy tuck, your body will require a sufficient amount of nutrients to heal effectively. Plan your meals for your well in advance to ensure you’re eating a balanced, nutritious diet. If you’re not confident in meal planning, consider consulting a nutritionist who can help you devise the perfect meal schedule.
Additionally, consider any other items you might need, such as medicines, household supplies, or things to keep you entertained like books or films. Having all of these essentials easily will make your recovery smoother and more comfortable.
What to Avoid Before Your Mummy Makeover?
When you’re preparing for a mummy makeover, there are some crucial things that you should avoid to ensure a safe procedure and effective recovery. Here’s what you need to steer clear of:
Smoking is a big no-no when you’re preparing for any surgical procedure. The nicotine in cigarettes can affect blood circulation, reduce oxygen supply to the tissues, and both the surgery and the healing process. It’s to abstain from smoking and even avoid secondhand smoke in any setting, public or private.

Alcohol can interfere with your body’s ability to process anaesthesia and should, therefore, be completely avoided in the lead-up to your surgery. Consuming alcohol can heighten the risk of complications during the procedure.
Any medication that thins the blood can pose serious risks during surgery. It’s advised to steer clear of these types of for a period of 2 to 4 weeks before your procedure. They can cause complications, such as increased bleeding during the surgery itself.
Hormone medications like oestrogen-based contraceptives or Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can increase the risk of blood clots. It’s to stop taking these medications at least four weeks before your surgery as a preventive measure.
