Orlistat can decrease the absorption of certain vitamins and nutrients. Talk to your health care provider about which multivitamin to take while on this medicine. The multivitamin should be taken two hours before or after a dose of orlistat. Take each dose of orlistat with a fat-containing meal or up to one hour after a fat-containing meal. Any meal that is high in fat (more than 30% of calories from fat) can increase your risk for side effects. If you skip a meal or if a meal does not contain fat, you can skip that dose of orlistat.

Orlistat and other health conditions
Before having weight loss surgery, tell your healthcare team (including the anaesthetist) if you’re taking liraglutide, semaglutide or terzepatide. This is because your body may not absorb the contraceptive pill during this time. Semaglutide is not recommended if you’re pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding or have certain health conditions. As well as helping you maintain a healthy weight, physical activity also has wider health benefits. For example, it can help prevent and manage more than 20 conditions, such as reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes by 40%.
Tirzepatide is not recommended if you’re pregnant or planning to get pregnant, breastfeeding, or if you have certain health conditions. If you have at least 4 of these conditions but your BMI is less than 40, you may be eligible for tirzepatide due to your ethnicity. This is because people with some ethnic backgrounds have an increased risk of health conditions at lower BMIs. Tirzepatide for weight management is suitable for adults living with obesity and another weight-related health problem.
It is not known if or how orlistat could affect pregnancy or harm an unborn baby. However, weight loss is not recommended during pregnancy, even if you are already overweight. If you become pregnant while taking orlistat, contact your health care provider.
This could be in the form of a gym workout, carrying shopping bags, or doing an activity such as tai chi. It’s also critical that you break up sitting (sedentary) time by getting up and moving around. A very low calorie diet (VLCD) is where you consume less than 800 calories a day. Some restaurants, cafés and fast food outlets provide calorie information per portion, although providing this information isn’t compulsory. Be careful when eating out because some foods can quickly take you over the limit, such as burgers, fried chicken, and some curries or Chinese dishes. You’ll also need to check calorie information for each type of food and drink you consume to make sure you don’t go over your daily limit.
Children over the age of 5 should ideally get at least 60 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise a day, such as running or playing football or netball. Sedentary activities, such as watching television and playing computer games, should be restricted. You’ll have a review after taking liraglutide for 3 months. You’ll then usually only carry on taking the medicine if you’ve lost at least 5% of your body weight. Follow your doctor’s advice about how to take orlistat, and the instructions that come with your medicine. Orlistat is available on prescription from your doctor, or you can buy it at a lower dose from a pharmacy.
